Getting started with TweeHuizen

How do I create a family?

After signing up, the onboarding guides you through it. You create a family, add your children and set up the base schedule. After that you can invite the other parent from the Family tab.

How do I invite the other parent?

Go to the Family tab and tap "Invite someone". You get an invitation code you can share via WhatsApp, email or any other app. The message also contains a download link that opens the App Store straight away on an iPhone. The other parent enters the code while creating their own account.

How does an invitation code work?

An invitation code is a unique code that lets someone join your family. Once they enter it during sign-up, they are linked to your family automatically, with the role and permissions you chose.

Codes stay valid for thirty days. Not redeemed in time? No problem: you can generate a new code from that person's profile in the Family tab.

What is the base schedule?

The base schedule is the fixed care split that repeats itself, for example "week on, week off" or a fixed weekly pattern. You set it up under Coordinate → Base schedule. When the split changes, you can make a proposal for specific days or periods.

Family and roles

What roles exist in a family?

TweeHuizen has three main roles:

  • Parent (primary parent): full rights: planning, making proposals and approving them.
  • Someone involved (step-parent, grandparent, carer): can view and make proposals, and optionally approve them as well (set per person).
  • Child: a profile without an account, managed by the parents. Older children can optionally get their own login with limited rights.
Can a grandparent or step-parent approve proposals?

By default only parents can approve proposals. Parents can change this under Family → Permission settings: turn on "Non-parents may approve", then decide per person who gets that right. This change needs approval from both parents.

Can my child use the app?

Yes, older children can get their own login with limited rights. You first create a child profile in the app and then generate a link code. With that code the child can sign in on their own phone and follow the schedule, without being able to change family details.

Planning and proposals

What is a "proposal" in the app?

A proposal is a request to deviate from the base schedule, for example "I would like to swap Saturday" or "the children are all with me next week". The other parent gets a notification and can approve or decline. The schedule only changes after approval.

How do I make a proposal?

Go to the Schedule or Coordinate tab and tap "New proposal". Choose a date, say what you want to change and add a note if you like. The other parent gets a notification.

What happens if nobody responds to a proposal?

Proposals stay open until the other parent responds. If both primary parents are linked with their own account, every change needs the other parent's explicit consent. If only one primary parent is linked, for example while the second parent has not accepted the invitation yet, an authorised proposal for the base schedule is applied right away. Notifications keep you up to date.

Can I withdraw my own proposal?

Yes. As long as the other parent has not approved or declined it, you can withdraw it yourself. Go to Coordinate, find your proposal under "Waiting for a response" and tap "Withdraw proposal". The other parent no longer sees it in their list. The action stays visible in the log, so you can both look back at what happened.

How do I split school holidays and public holidays?

Go to Coordinate → Holidays and public holidays. You will see all Dutch school holidays and recognised public holidays. For each holiday period you can record which parent the children are with, or propose a different split.

Can I keep track of my child's activities?

Yes. Under Coordinate → Activities you add sports, parties, hobbies and other regular commitments. This makes it clear who takes the child to which activity, and prevents double bookings.

Can the app remember what needs to come along to an activity?

Yes. For every activity you can make a list of things to bring, for example swimwear, a towel and goggles for a swimming lesson. Choose when you want a reminder (30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours or a day before) and the app sends a notification with the full list.

The app also suggests items for common activities: type "swimming lesson" and TweeHuizen proposes swimwear, a towel and goggles.

Who receives the reminder for an activity?

The parent doing the drop-off gets the notification, including the list of things to bring. That way they do not have to dig through old messages in the morning to work out what goes in the sports bag.

Does your child have their own account, for example an older teenager? Then you can tick the box so they get the notification too. Very handy when they pack their own bag.

I have already packed everything, what now?

The reminder itself has two buttons: Packed and Snooze 15 min. "Packed" closes the notification. "Snooze" brings it back 15 minutes later, handy if you are busy right now but want to pack shortly.

What does the Care split tab show?

Care split shows statistics about how care is divided: how many days, weekends and holidays each family member has had. Useful to look at every now and then to see whether the split still feels fair.

Subscription and payment

What is the difference between Family and Family Plus?

Family is for 2 adults (the two parents). Family Plus is for 3 to 6 adults, for example when step-parents, grandparents or other involved adults take part. Children are free in both cases.

Do children count towards the seats?

No. Children are always free profiles. Only adults use a seat in your subscription.

What is free and what is premium?

Free: creating an account, starting a family, adding children, setting up the base schedule, inviting family members, viewing the schedule, and splitting holidays and public holidays.

Premium: making and approving proposals (coordinating), tracking activities, care split statistics, push notifications, calendar export and backup.

You start with a 14-day free trial, so you can try everything.

How does my free trial start?

The 14-day trial starts as soon as you choose a subscription on the paywall. You are only charged after the trial ends, and you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before that from your Apple ID settings.

How do I cancel my subscription?

On your iPhone go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions → TweeHuizen → Cancel. You keep access until the end of the paid period. TweeHuizen cannot cancel subscriptions itself; Apple handles that.

How do I restore a subscription I bought earlier?

Sign in with the account you used before and choose Restore purchases to link your subscription again. Need help? Email support@tweehuizen.com.

What happens when my subscription ends?

You keep access to the basics: family, children, base schedule and viewing the schedule. Premium features (proposals, activities, statistics, notifications, export, backup) are paused until you subscribe again. Your data is kept.

Notifications and sync

Which notifications do I get?

TweeHuizen sends notifications for: a new proposal, a response to a proposal, an upcoming handover, and important changes to the schedule. You can fine-tune them under More → Notifications.

Do notifications work in the simulator?

No. Push notifications only work on a real iPhone. Local reminders inside the app work without push notifications.

Can I use TweeHuizen on more than one device?

Yes. Sign in with the same account on all your devices. Your schedule and changes sync automatically. On a new device you can use "Restore purchases" to link your subscription again.

How do I change my email address or password?

You can do this yourself in the app, from version 2.1. Go to More > Change email address. To be safe we ask for your password, and you confirm the new address with a link in your inbox. Until you open that link, you keep signing in with your current address. To change your password, go to More > Change password: we send you a link, and the button in that email lets you choose a new password. Open that email on the same device. Your account and your family stay exactly the same.

Does TweeHuizen work offline?

To a limited extent. You can view previously loaded data while offline, but proposals, notifications and syncing need an internet connection. A change you try to make offline will only go through once you are back online, so you need to make it again.

Data and privacy

Can I export my data?

Yes. Go to More → Calendar export to export the care schedule to your calendar app (Apple Calendar, Google Calendar). Under More → Backup you can make a local backup of part of your family data; activities, the family log and the images are not included. For a full overview, email privacy@tweehuizen.com.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, under More > Delete account. This works from version 2.0; if you see an error, update the app in the App Store. Prefer email? Email privacy@tweehuizen.com and we will delete your account and your data within 30 days. If you were the last member of the family, the whole family is deleted, including the schedule, proposals and activities. If other members remain, the family stays and your name can still appear in the schedule and in earlier proposals. Purchase records (which subscription, when) are kept for seven years, because tax law requires it. We keep them without your name or email address. Files are gone within 30 days at the latest, and server logs after 7 days. Have a subscription? Cancel it with Apple first: deleting your account does not stop the payments, and the subscription does not move to a new account. See our privacy policy (in Dutch) for details.

Is my data safe?

Yes. We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), Row Level Security at database level (only you and your family members can read your data from the database) and secure authentication. Sign-in details are stored in the secure Keychain on your iPhone. Our account and family database is hosted with Supabase in the EU.

See our Privacy policy (in Dutch) for more information.

Who can see my family data?

The members of your own family. Through the app, nobody outside your family can reach your data. As the administrator of the database we do have technical access, for example to fix an outage or carry out a deletion request; we do not look inside families without a reason. Profile pictures are only visible to your own family as well: the app shows them through a link that expires after 24 hours. In the app we do not use external analytics services and we do not sell data.

Other

Is TweeHuizen suitable for parents living together?

The app is designed specifically for separated parents with children living at two addresses. Parents living together can of course use it to keep track of the weekly schedule, but a lot of features (such as proposals between two homes) are then less relevant.

My proposal was approved, but I want to cancel it after all. Is that possible?

Approved proposals are final. You can make a new proposal to undo the change; that then needs approval from the other parent again. This way everyone stays aware of changes.

I found a bug. Where do I report it?

Send an email to support@tweehuizen.com describing the problem and, if you can, a screenshot. Please also mention which iPhone and which iOS version you are using.

Can I use TweeHuizen for more than one family?

One account is linked to one family. If you are involved with several families (for example as a carer for different households), you need a separate account per family.
